FSD V14 Lite on a 2022 Model 3: The Leap I Waited For

Coming from FSD 12.6.4 on my 2022 Model 3, V14 Lite feels like a completely different system. It’s not a small iteration — it’s leaps and bounds smoother, more confident, and far more human in the way it drives.

Bottom line: My wife no longer complains about jerkiness. Decisions feel sound. The car finally drives the way I’ve been waiting for.

The Human Feel Finally Arrived

V14 Lite is a distilled model, but it clearly learned and utilizes human behaviors. Acceleration, braking, and lane changes feel natural instead of robotic. The overall smoothness is the biggest single improvement — the car no longer feels like it’s constantly correcting or second-guessing itself.

Even in scenarios that demand real human judgment, it handles itself well. I’m not sure why it took this long to get here, but the work that went into it shows. The influencer beta testing phase was necessary to flush out bugs, and the result is a system that finally feels ready for everyday use.

Parking Garage Magic

One of the standout moments: a multi-level parking garage. The car pulled in, navigated the levels correctly, and parked for us without drama. On the way out it navigated the ramps and exits perfectly. No hesitation, no wrong turns, no last-second corrections. Just clean, confident behavior.

Flooded Street Navigation

Another moment that felt almost magical: a flooded street. Instead of plunging through the deep water, the car chose the shallower side and followed the path other vehicles were taking. It read the situation, adapted, and got us through cleanly. That’s the kind of judgment that used to require a human behind the wheel.

The Remaining Quirks

Brake stabbing still happens — mostly in shadow areas and standing water. The car is a bit of a cat when it comes to puddles and dark patches. But it’s almost none compared with earlier versions. The frequency and severity are dramatically reduced.

2022 vs Newer Hardware

I really feel like there’s not a big difference between my 2022 Model 3 and a newer one for day-to-day FSD. RGB lights and a few design improvements are nice, but the core driving experience on V14 Lite already delivers what I wanted. Hardware 3 is still very much in the game.

Looking Ahead

14.1 Lite is rolling out now and I’m super stoked to see even more improvements. If V14 Lite is already this good, the next versions should be outstanding.

Overall: Wow. This is what I waited for. Smooth, human, and capable in the situations that used to trip it up. Highly recommended for anyone still on 12.x.
